Ellsworth G. Hales, 96, of Elyria, died Monday, August 27, 2012 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain after a brief illness.He was born March 27, 1916 in Elyria, was a 1934 graduate of Elyria High School and served with the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946.Ellsworth worked in the family business, Hales Complete Food Market on Middle Avenue in Elyria as a meat cutter until retiring in 1975. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Elyria and Elyria Senior Fellowship.For thirty years, he and his wife enjoyed spending the winters at their home in St. Petersburg, Florida. His other interests were traveling and working in the yard with his flowers.Ellsworth is survived by his wife of 63 years, Doris E. (nee Hiskey) and three children.He was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Ethel Hales; brothers Lawrence and John Hales and a sister, Irene Stone.Friends will be received Thursday, August 30th, 2012 from 10a.m. until the time of an 11:00a.m. funeral service at First Baptist Church of Elyria, 11400 LaGrange Rd., Elyria. Reverend Patrick Odle will officiate with burial in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Life Hospice, 5255 N. Abbe Rd., Elyria, OH 44035.
