Reverend George F Shiltz's Obituary
Reverend George F. Shiltz, 90, of Elyria, died Thursday, May 7, 2026. He was born March 2, 1936 in Hendrysburg, Ohio. He was a 1954 graduate of Shreve High School where he was the valedictorian. He earned a Bachelor in Philosophy and Religion from Asbury College, Wilmore KY and a Master of Divinity from Asbury Theological Society. George served as a methodist minister at Powhatan Point Charge which consisted of 3 churches from 1962-1965, Mt. Zion UMC, Canton from 1965-1970, South Arlington UMC, Akron from 1970-1978, Moore Memorial UMC, Barberton from 1978-1988, Keene UMC from 1988-1992, Christ UMC, Cleveland from 1992-1995 and Community United Methodist Church, Elyria from 1994 until his retirement. He was a board member and lifetime attendee at Camp Sychar Holiness Association and looked forward to the annual camp meetings. He enjoyed reading, fishing, working around the house, yard and garden and served hot meals with the church. George was very meticulous about visitors in his church and home even having them sign a guest book. He was also great athlete, had a heart for people and loved being there for the community.
George is survived by children, Shari Green of Lorain, Lois Shiltz of Elyria, Paul (Lynne) Shiltz of Mt. Vernon and Stephen Shiltz of Akron; 6 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sisters, Martha (Jay) Priest and Ellen Seymore.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Barbara Ann in 2015; grandson, Jason Shiltz and parents, Rev. Frederick A. and Emily F. Shiltz.
Friends will be received Monday, May 11, 2026 from 10:00 am until the time of a 12:00 pm service at Church of the Open Door, 321 Lear Road, Avon Lake, Ohio with Pastor Tom Keene officiating. A graveside service will be Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at 1:00 pm in Conotton Cemetery, Conotton, Ohio
