Ed and I loved Jerry and will miss him very much. We enjoyed going to a movie and then having a meal with Jerry and Jan. Jerry was one of the nicest people we ever knew. My son worked for him for two summers during high school and he still talks about that time very fondly. He said that Jerry was the first adult who treated him as an equal and that they enjoyed many laughs together as they worked side by side. Jerry was a hard worker as well as a kind and compassionate man who would do anything for anyone. Rest in peace, Jerry. We will miss you forever.

I saw this in the Chronicle Telegram today. I used to work for Jerry, when I was 16 (1974). One summer, I walked from my house in Shipherd Circle, to Rt. 10, (now 511), clear down a long drive, back to the Oberlin City Dump. Id arrive at 8 am - 4pm weekdays, and I took tickets from folks that purchased a dumping permit from the City, to dump their trucks. I also had to mark down each time the city garbage truck came back there to dump. There was no office, just a bull dozer to sit on or under, if the sun was too intense. I was waaaay back off of the road out there all alone, yet no one bothered me. Thinking backwhoa, back there all alone, could have been dangerous!!! I was never scared. Each evening, Jerry came and took the tickets from me and dug a hole and buried that days dumpings. I ran into Jerry about 20 years ago, and reminded him of my odd summer job hed given me, and he remembered!! He was all smiles when we were talking about it. Such a nice man.
