Gerald P. “Jerry” DeMarinis, 88, of Oberlin, died January 6, 2022 in his home. He was born March 6, 1933 in Rocky River and graduated from Rocky River High School and Oberlin College with a degree in political science. Jerry served with the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed machinery and working with his hands. He owned and operated two construction companies, The Brick Drive Company and Erie Contracting Company, the company that put in utility lines in cities all over Ohio. Some of his work included Tappan Square in Oberlin and downtown Sandusky. Jerry was a member of Peace Community Church, Oberlin. He loved watching and participating in sports, was very good at baseball and tennis and followed all of the Cleveland teams. He was an avid reader, up until his death. Jerry especially enjoyed being with his family and was very, very kind to everyone. Jerry is survived by his wife, of 54 years, Janet M. (nee Alban); son, Marc; daughter; Nicole (Matt); grandsons, Jack, Ross and Schuyler and granddogs, Tucker and Lilly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Dorothy DeMarinis; sons, Tony and John Paul and sisters, Connie, Dianne and Carol. Memorial contributions may be made to Salvation Army Elyria Corps, 716 Broad Street, Elyria, Ohio 44035. Per Jerry’s request, there will be no visitation and burial will be private.
