Gerald R. Kindle, 102, of Elyria, died March 20, 2017. He was born November 18, 1914 in Lorain and had lived in Geneva, OH where he was a 1933 graduate of Geneva High School. He moved to Elyria in 1937 and served in the Philippines as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II. From 1947 to 1977, Gerald owned and operated Kindle Trenching. He was a life member of Elyria V.F.W. #1079. He and his wife had traveled to 17 countries. He enjoyed boating, woodworking and built his own grandfather clock. Gerald is survived by a son, Leigh (Linda) Kindle of Elyria; grandsons, Mark (Lisa) Kindle of Eastlake, OH and David (Tricia) Kindle of Bluffton, SC and great grandchildren, Jack, Susannah and James Kindle. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Charlotte M. (nee Wallace) in 2006; great grandchildren, Katelyn Ann and Mickey Kindle; parents Cleon and Maude Kindle; brother, Lloyd Kindle and a sister, Thelma Sweighert.
