Vernon L. NicholasVernon L. Nicholas, 84, of Elyria, died, September 1, 2017. He was born September 16, 1932 in Bristol, West Virginia and was a 1950 graduate of Bristol High School. Vernon served in the United States Army in Korea during The Korean War. He then graduated from Salem College, Salem, West Virginia with a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration and Industrial Arts and received a Masters Degree in Education from West Virginia University. He began his teaching career in Avon and served as a High School Principal in South Amherst, Amherst and Marietta. In 1976 he retired as superintendent of Brunswick City Schools. He was a member of several Masonic organizations including Stonington Lodge # 503, Amherst.Vernon is survived by his wife of sixty two years, Peggy; daughters, JoLynne (Tom) Lavelle and LeeAnn Nicholas; grandchildren, Erin Lavelle and Hali Waddell; four great grandchildren and a sister, Helen Jacquez.
