William Skinner Obituary
William R. Skinner, 89, Oberlin, OH, son of Janey Martin Skinner Johnson and Robert E. Skinner, passed away November 23, 2019, surrounded by his wife Susan and their children. He was born January 1, 1930 in Tampa, Florida and in 1966, obtained his Ph.D. from Columbia University. After graduating, he began his career as a professor of geology at Oberlin College, where he taught for over 35 years. A lover of both science and music, he collected records and shared his love of vocal performance with hundreds of listeners. In addition to his wife of 62 years, Susan, he is survived by children, David Skinner of Boston, MA, Jonathan Skinner of Dunedin, FL, Janey Skinner of Richmond, CA and Deborah Cannon of Columbus, OH; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a brother Lee H. Skinner of Albuquerque, NM. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service will Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 3:00 pm at Oberlin Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 355 East Lorain Street, Oberlin, Ohio 44074.
